This whisky smoking kit works great and has lots of variety of flavors. It comes with all the pieces needed including torch. This is a fantastic gift that someone actually would use. The presentation when you open it is a lot of components so I understand why they call it an advent calendar but it is not an "open a piece a day" kind of format. I could not believe the amount of items for the money. It is a great value. Smoking the whisky is very easy and the appearance of the items included make it suited to present on your home bar. I would highly recommend this as a gift for a whisky lover.

I ordered this kit to try a new type of smoking for my bourbons, as in the past I had only used an electric smoker. I really like this style!First the calendar itself - it is very well packaged, and would make a fantastic gift. One important thing to note is that the recipient will not be able to use the kit until day 5, when they receive enough items to start using the smoker. Also, this kit does not come with butane, so make sure that you gift a bottle of that as well for the lighter.The calendar is laid out very well, (in my photo, I have arranged the items you receive in order from top left to bottom right, days 1-24) and allows you to try different modifiers to your bourbon/whiskey each day after 5. From stainless rocks to stone rocks, and a load of different wood chips for different smoking flavors, this has a great variety.There were only 2 gift days I was unimpressed with - Day 21 is a "leather" coaster that is very cheaply made and smells funny. Then day 24 (which is usually reserved in advent calendars for the "best" gift IME) was a plastic bottle stopper - also very cheaply made.The actual smoker works well though. I enjoy how much easier it is to control the level of smoke you are delivering to your glass when using a torch vs. the pre-timed electric smoker, and the chips included have good flavor (I have tried apple and cherry so far). I also like that the smoker has a cover, so you can torch the chips, then cover the smoker to keep the smoke in your glass while transporting.Overall, this is a really nice kit in great gift packaging, this is a nice price for it as well!

My hubs loves a good glass of whiskey. I thought that this would be something different for him to try.The box is simple. The days however are a seek and find. They are a mix of numerals and spelled out numbers in random places. The good thing is you will be ready to start smoking by day five. Everything you need is included, except for the butane cartridge, you will need to get that separately. The tray holding all the items can be fully removed from the end of the box. I removed all the packaging from each item to get it ready. Day one of the calendar is the instruction book and cocktail mixing cards, there is also space to add a butane cartridge.The individual, included items all seem to be well made. Each type of wood chips comes in a well labeled tin with enough to be used multiple times.This could also make a great gift to give at your Thankgiving/Friendsgiving celebration. Or like me, give it to your special someone to enjoy together.
